Church, when Jesus Christ began his ministry – or, officially began his ministry – he was doing a new thing. Christ called to people who were otherwise not going to be called on to preach the word of God, and he went places that religious leaders otherwise would have never gone. As we lean into the direction that God is calling us, let us remember that we are called to grow in our walk and our likeness of Christ, who has said:
“You call me Teacher and Lord – and you are right, for that is what I am. So if I , your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you. Very truly, I tell you, servants are not greater than their masters, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them” (John 13:13-17, NRSV).
New Wine – Hillsong Worship
Have it All – Bethel Music
“As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea – for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him. As he went from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed him” (Matthew 4:18-22, NRSV).
Here as in Heaven – Elevation Worship
“Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people. So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought to him all the sick, those who were afflicted with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, and paralytics, and he cured them. And great crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from beyond the Jordan” (Matthew 4:23-25, NRSV).
Yes and Amen – Housefires
“I am the Lord, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King. Thus says the Lord, Who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters, who brings out chariots and horse, army and warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they are extinguished, quenched like a wick: do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. The wild animals will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches; for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen people, the people whom I formed for myself so that they might declare my praise” (Isaiah 43:15-21, NRSV).
“I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6, NRSV).
