Good morning, and welcome! Hopefully you all got the memo that this week our “doing something different” is doing church – the gathering – as a zoom meeting where we gather, talk, and enjoy community together as the Church – the body of Christ. If you’re reading this post before Sunday at 10am, don’t forget to join us on zoom, and if you are listening to this later I hope that you were able to join us in community as we walk towards our infinitely creative God.
Take a Moment – United Pursuit
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Indeed, by faith our ancestors received approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible. By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain’s. Through this he received approval as righteous, God himself giving approval to his gifts; he died, but through his faith he still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken so that he did not experience death; and “he was not found, because God had taken him.” For it was attested before he was taken away that “he had pleased God.” And without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever would approach him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. By faith Noah, warned by God about events as yet unseen, respected the warning and built an ark to save his household; by this he condemned the world and became an heir to the righteousness that is in accordance with faith” (Hebrews 11:1-7, NRSV).
Same Blood – Kings Kaleidoscope
“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to set out for a place that he was to receive as an inheritance; and he set out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he stayed for a time in the land he had been promised, as in a foreign land, living in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he looked forward to the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. By faith he received power of procreation, even though he was too old—and Sarah herself was barren—because he considered him faithful who had promised. Therefore from one person, and this one as good as dead, descendants were born, “as many as the stars of heaven and as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.”” (Hebrews 11:8-12, NRSV).
Nothing I Hold On To – United Pursuit
Not Finished Yet – Chris Renzema
“So we are always confident; even though we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord – for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we do have confidence, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. For all of us must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive recompense for what has been done in the body, whether good or evil” (2 Corinthians 5:6-10, NRSV).
Church, as we have faith in God we can also have faith and trust that our God is doing good things through us. Christ said that “where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them” (Matthew 18:20, NRSV), and we can have faith that whether we are meeting on zoom, with our family in our living room on Sunday morning, in the park with a close friend, or in any other situation, when we focus our thoughts and our desires on Christ he will meet us there. When we are doing a new thing at church, when we are stepping out of our comfort zone, God will meet with us and sustain us as only God can.
Thank you for joining us today! If you haven’t listened to this week’s sermon yet, it is posted on our YouTube channel, our website, and now as a podcast on Spotify, iTunes, and a few other platforms too! If you prefer to listen to worship music in a playlist format, don’t forget that all of these songs are also available on our Spotify playlist so that you can worship as you go about your week. Our playlist is updated every week so that the songs for the most recent message will be right at the top of the queue. We also have a newsletter that talks about more ways to connect and worship with us as a community in Christ, so if you would like to connect with us in that way there is more information about how you can do that on our website. Thanks, and God bless!
